Holly Pinot Noir 2013

You can now buy New Zealand's Holly Pinot Noir wine in Singapore! The Holly line is the top premium offering from the Matahiwi Estate winery, and it truly shows with this wine. In particular, this Pinot Noir stands out for its full bodied texture and deep and complex taste not too often found in the NZ variety of Pinot's. It really lingers in one's mouth, with waves of flavours replacing each other. If you like French or Italian red wines, give this one a try - you should be very impressed with it, especially given its price point. Tasting notes and food pairing ideas:

The 2013 growing season wasvery warm hence this PinotNoir has strength on the palate of ripe cherries and red fruits, licorice and leather with spicy charry aromatic oak flavours. A plush palate with dense but supple tannins in the finish. On the nose you will notice cassis and red berry fruits, spice with a hint of toasty/smoky oak.Tobacco and tea leaf aromas, touch of licorice. It will go very nicely with both meat dishes and after-meal cheeses (actually, you can have cheese during the meal as well, it's OK).

Additional stuff:

In the winery, the different batches of fruit were processed separately so that we can see the individual characters on their own.  Further complexities were then added by incorporating different techniques and yeast combinations. The grapes are cold soaked for between fiveto sevendays and then fermented at about 28-32 °C.  Depending on the vintage conditions, up to 21 days allowed for post-ferment on skins before the grapes are pressed off.The wine is matured in French oak barrels (about 35% new) for 10 months.  The barrels are then each individually tasted before the final blend is confirmed.
